GUADALUPAN
Our foundation, on behalf of the Church, was an offering of gratitude from the heart of our founding father to Our Lady of Guadalupe for his vocation to the Works of the Cross. Our name denotes our Marian character, and it is a constant reminder of our calling to be, in the example of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a loving and compassionate presence among the most needy.
MISSIONARIES
In response to Jesus’ command “Go throughout the world and make disciples of all peoples”, we gladly spread the Good News of the Lord to all. The world is ourhome, and our greatest joy proclaiming God’s love anywhere God will take us.
OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are able to carry out our ministry. We know, as it is stated in Pope Paul VI ‘s Evangelli Nuntiandi, “that the first agent of evangelization is the Holy Spirit”. Therefore we constantly call out for the Holy Spirit’s help in all that we do, and we acknowledge the Spirit’s loving presence in our lives.
With Diocesan approval from Rome and Pope Pius XI we were born into the church as a religious institute on September 15, 1930. On February 11, 1973, Pope Paul VI granted us Pontifical approval. On June 7, 1987, Rome approved our updated Constitution, according to what was indicated by Vatican Council II. We were founded in the city of Morelia in the state of Michoacan, México, by a French priest, Felix de Jesús Rougier, MSpS (Missionary of the Holy Spirit), who is currently in the beatification process.
Our spirituality is a priestly one, which means becoming an offering in union with Christ for the benefit of our brothers and sisters. We also pray in a very special way for the sanctification of priests.
Our mission: with Holy Mary of Guadalupe, who was delicate, loving, and respectful, we work as evangelizers and catechists with the needy. We are invited to reflect Our Lady of Guadalupe’s loving attitude to all those we come in contact with in our mission, in the spiritual message we bring.
Symbols that express our charism: Our Lady of Guadalupe image, the Cross of the Apostolate, and our shield which unites the elements of the apparitions of Our Lady with the motto “love, purity, and sacrifice”.
In our daily sharing of the Eucharist we become intimately united with Christ in His priestly sentiments. Our prayer life is enriched by each of the following forms of prayer: Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, Holy Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, and Meditations. All of these form part of our everyday living schedule.
Our ministry is born as result of our prayer life as a congregation, where the message of salvation comes alive through our missionary action.
Community life is the source from where we gather strength and support to accomplish the task which God has assigned us to, through the Church.
The majority of our houses are in México, country that witnessed our birth, but the sharing of Christ’s message is for all. That is why the congregation has expanded to different parts.
We began establishing missions in the United States in the year 1964; first in the Archdiocese of Miami’s St. Ann’s Mission, in Naranja Florida, a rural area of migrant families. Shortly thereafter we ministered in other rural migrant workers communities in Florida, such as Immokalee, and Belle Glade.
Our ministry here in the U.S. includes Hispanic Ministry, migrants, liturgy, religious education, and lay leadership formation. We are currently located in the following places: Miami, Florida (U.S.A. Headquarters) ; Florida City, FL; Forest, MS; Glenwood Springs, CO; Huntsville, AL : Hoover, AL; Gettysburg, PA; Jupiter, FL; Lincoln, NE; Pueblo, CO; Stockton, CA; New Bedford, MA; Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL.
